Pakistan batsman Saud Shakeel etched his name in the record books on the third day of the ongoing second Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Colombo. The talented cricketer achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the first batter in Test history to score a half-century in each of his first seven Test matches.
Saud Shakeel’s achievement surpasses the previous record holders, including legendary names like Sunil Gavaskar, Basil Butcher, Saeed Ahmad, and Bert Sutcliffe, who managed to score fifty or more runs in each of their first six Test matches.
The 27-year-old left-handed batsman’s latest milestone came during Pakistan’s first innings when he came to the crease with the team standing at 210-3 in response to Sri Lanka’s first innings score of 166. Despite his departure after scoring 57 runs, Shakeel’s partnership with Abdullah Shafique helped Pakistan extend their first innings lead over 150.
This exceptional display of batting prowess comes on the back of Shakeel’s historic performance in the first Test in Galle, where he achieved another milestone. During that match, he became the first Pakistani batsman to score a double century on Sri Lankan soil.
Saud Shakeel’s unbeaten 208 in the first Test surpassed the previous highest individual Test score by a Pakistani batter in Sri Lanka, held by Mohammad Hafeez (196). Moreover, he joined an elite group of Pakistani cricketers as only the second player to achieve a double century in the first away Test match of a series, following Zaheer Abbas, who accomplished the feat against England in 1971.
The young cricketer’s consistent and outstanding performances have earned him praise and admiration from fans and cricket enthusiasts alike. His ability to score consistently has made him an invaluable asset to the Pakistan cricket team and holds promise for a bright future in the sport.
As Saud Shakeel continues to make history with his remarkable batting skills, fans eagerly anticipate more such memorable moments from the rising star in the world of cricket.
