Shaheen Afridi Excited for Return in PSL 2023

Pakistan cricket sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi made his international debut in 2018, receiving his cap from legend Wasim Akram in Karachi. During his first Pakistan Super League season, he quickly made a name for himself with a five-wicket haul against the Multan Sultans, becoming one of only two bowlers to achieve the feat that year.

Shaheen went on to establish himself as a key player for Pakistan and a dominant force in the bowling attack. He held the record for the most wickets (204) in all international formats, before suffering an injury to his right knee in July 2022. Despite setbacks, Shaheen continued to impress, taking part in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia before another injury during the final.

In an interview, Shaheen admitted there were times when he struggled during his rehabilitation, but watching his previous performances motivated him to push through. He missed Pakistan’s biggest home season, including seven T20Is and twelve international games against England and the Test and ODI series against New Zealand.

Despite missing important games, Shaheen remained connected with the team and fellow bowlers, including Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf. As one of the top wicket-takers in PSL history, Shaheen is eager to make his comeback and prove his skills in the tournament.

Shaheen and the Lahore Qalandars, the reigning champions, will begin their title defense on February 13th against the Multan Sultans. The PSL offers the perfect opportunity for Shaheen to test his fitness and skills ahead of the upcoming ICC World Test Championship cycle, 50-over Asia Cup, and World Cup. Shaheen is confident in his abilities and excited for the challenges ahead.
