News anchor, TV presenter, and TV anchor Anam Ahmed has joined the league of anchors with the anchoring of a sports show to their credit. The Hum News anchor is hosting Pakistan Super League (PSL) special transmission Jahan Cricket Wahan Hum with first-class cricketer and former captain of Islamabad Region, Zohaib Ahmed.
Previously known as Anam Afzal joined Hum News back in 2018 and was part of the launching team of the channel. This is her first experience of hosting a sports show, “This is the first time, I am hosting a full-fledged sports show and it is a different experience from what I have done in the past. I have been on sports transmissions or sports breaking news but this is a different ball game altogether, ” Anam talks about her experience with the show. “I have hosted Hum News Extra a multidimensional late-night news show it also had an element of sports in it,” she added.
Talking about the format of the show Jahan Cricket Wahan Hum host said:
“The format is simple, we discuss the PSL with sponsored packages and highlights. We have World Cup winner and former captain Amir Sohail and youngest cricketer to make Test debut Hassan Raza as experts on the show who review every game and share expert opinion. In the maiden edition of the show we had Senetor Faisal Javed Khan and Hum News senior anchor Samar Abbas as special guests on the show. We include live phone calls from fans during the show to create fan engagement, it is something that I do not think any other PSL related show is doing at the moment.”
Zohaib Ahmed is the expert host of the show, who has the honor of captaining international cricketers such as Abid Ali, Babar Azam, Hasan Ali and many more, Zohaib represented Pakistan U19 and Pakistan A as well. “Zohaib is an amazing co host, he brings the expert element to the show with his history of being a professional cricketer,” Anam said about he co-host.
Shahid Afridi is the most favorite sportsman of Anam. “My most favorite cricketer is Shahid Khan Afridi, nothing above and beyond him. I am such a diehard fan that I can not tolerate anything against him,” said the TV anchor. Quetta Gladiators all-rounder Shahid Afridi delivered the most expensive spell of PSL history as he went for 67 runs in four overs in which he was hit all over the park by Islamabad United’s Colin Munro and Azam Khan. “I was at the receiving end of all the puns in the show after that performance of Shahid Afridi, but it does not effect my reverence for the legend,” says Anam.
Hailing from Islamabad, Anam Afzal says that his favorite news and TV anchor is Sana Mirza. “The former anchor of Geo News, Sana Mirza has always inspired me. I absolutely adore her conduct of news and am a big fan of how she uses pauses while speaking on TV,” said Hum News anchor.
In her four-year-long stint, thus far, with Hum News, Anam Afzal has been a stand-in host of various shows such as News Line, Hum Meher Bokhari Ke Sath, Pakistan Ka Sawal, and Views Makers. She also co-hosted special transmissions on Hum Masala with Ovais Mangalwala.
Last year Anam got married to Islamabad-based real estate professional Ahmed Ali. Talking about the support of her husband Anam said:
“I feel really blessed to have a life partner like him, Ahmed supports me a lot and he is the one who always shares his honest feedback with me every day. It really motivates me when he says that how proud he is of me. I also take his input every now and then be it news or doing a political show. Since he is into sports himself and an avid golf player, his input and suggestions for the sports show and insights about PSL really are helpful. It is great when your spouse not only understands your work but alos suppots your passion.”
Anam Ahmed did her Masters in Mass Comm from NUML Islamabad and started her journalism career during her studies at Roze News as a newscaster in 2014. She joined Waqt TV in late 2015 where she was part of the newscast team and the face of the channel. In 2017, Anam Afzal joined Express news and was among the prominent news anchors of the channel. Since the launch of Hum News in 2018, Anam is part of the channel. Besides being a TV and news personality Anam has done a couple of modeling assignments for photoshoots.
Anam Ahmed hosted Jahan Cricket Wahan Hum airs every day on Hum News from 6pm to 7pm.
