Sadia Jabbar Productions has outdone itself with the making of this web series by the name of Shameless Proposals. Written by Saji and Atlas, and directed by Hunny Haroon, this web series is quite bold with its openly expressive dialogues and witty one-liners. The issues it caters to are spot on and very much in sync with the current happenings in our society when it comes to arranged marriages.
Episode 5 #Meetha touches upon quite a controversial topic that usually gets suppressed in our country, yet it is in dire need to be discussed. All humans aren’t the same, nor should they be expected to be so. But the pressure of families, society, a demand for grandchildren, and in general the constant stress of ‘log kya kahenge’ mostly forces men and women alike into marriages that are clearly not suitable, nor wanted.
Why is it such a huge deal for us if a person turns out to be different? Why can their families just not accept them the way they are? Our close-minded brains, fail to think far enough to understand the long-term consequences of such a mismatched union.
In an effort to ‘fix’ their boy, or to maintain their so-called ‘izzat’, his family members would unapologetically destroy the life and dreams of an innocent girl, who in most cases learns to live with the deprivation that she has been forced into.
Sadia Jabbar really deserves a huge thumbs up for being brave enough to bring forth such a prevalent, but a taboo topic in our society.
