Internationally acclaimed Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s documentary ‘A Girl In The River: The Price of Forgiveness’ has won the Oscar at the 88th Academy Award Ceremony.
It is the second Academy Award won by the Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy. Her film that won Oscar this year highlights the issue of honour killings in Pakistan. In 2012, Chinoy had won the Oscar for documentary film ‘Saving Face’ which was about the grim issue of disfiguring of the faces of girls and women by throwing acid at them.
‘A Girl In The River: The Price Of Forgiveness’ was one of five films which were nominated for this year’s Academy Award in the Best Documentary-Short Subject category.

Sharmeed Obaid Chinoy also holds a distinction of being among the only nine women filmmakers in the world to have won Oscars for non-fiction films.
