The internationally acclaimed television journalist and development activist Sidra Iqbal will be moderating a panel discussion on Educating for Peace at School of Tomorrow Festival 2015 (SOT 2015).

School of Tomorrow is Pakistan first International Education and Cultural Festival that is taking place in Karachi at Beach Luxury Hotel on 28th and 29th November. The SOT 2015 is featuring over 50 talks, panel discussion, sessions, and keynote speeches by 140+ local and international Speakers.

 

Sidra Iqbal will be moderating a panel discussion titled “Educating for Peace: Schooling in an Age of Conflict” This session part of “Geopolitics and Global Security” theme of School of Tomorrow Festival. Sidra Iqbal herself is a prominent Beaconhouse alumna, Sidra Iqbal is an. She is the first Pakistani to be presented the GR8 Women Award for Journalism 2014 by the Government of UAE and the Indian Television Academy. She is also winner of the English Speaking Union’s International Public Speaking Champion 1999, London. Sidra has represented the youth of Pakistan at a number of esteem forums in Australia, Cyprus, Japan, Turkey, UAE, US and many other countries throughout her college years. She was selected as an Advisor by the Ministry of Education for their global initiative ‘Women as Global Leaders’ at the Sheikh Zayed University in Dubai.

The panel discussion on “Educating for Peace: Schooling in an Age of Conflict” will focus and elaborate the role of education in the creation and maintenance of peaceful societies, and problems faced by schools in providing a safe and secure learning environment. The panel will also examine transformational educational experiences to develop values, attitudes and behaviors for youth to live in harmony.

Panelists for the discussion includes; Head of Professional Development Qualifications, Cambridge International Examinations Dr. Paul Beedle, Occupational Health and Safety expert Mr. Naeem Sadiq, and Dean and Director, IBA Karachi and former Governor State Bank of Pakistan Dr. Ishrat Hussain.

School of Tomorrow is first of its kind festival in Pakistan that is being held with the vision of understanding how external forces such as geopolitics and global security, media and digital technologies, art and culture and the environment and society are shaping 21st century schools and to propose new directions for the future.
