According to the reports coming from province, Sindh Government is seeing plans to use the method of artificial rain in Karachi as an effort to fight the effects of the present heat-wave. Nearly 490 people have died in few days due to high temperatures in the city, and there is no respite expected in near future from the heat.
The process of persuading artificial rain is known as Cloud Seeding and it does not guarantee success. In this process, the amount of rainfall in clouds is reformed by spraying a substance via an aeroplane on them.
The process would take up to a month to implement, and needs a large sum of money to fund it. Apart from the understandable financial constraints, the method entails the temperature and moisture of a certain level to ensure maximum effectiveness.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has called on National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to set up Heat Stroke Centres in whole Sindh. Those who are having the deadly effects of the rampant heat-wave can go to such relief centres. So far, ten heat stroke relief centres have been established in different areas of Karachi.
As for the artificial rain effort, a meeting has been called to further converse the likelihood and form a plan.
