Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) displayed a dominant performance as they secured an emphatic eight-wicket victory over the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to clinch the final of the President’s Cup Grade-I 2023-24 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, SNGPL’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance to restrict HEC to 189 all out in 45.4 overs. Despite some resistance from the lower order, HEC struggled to build partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals. Muhammad Ghazi Ghori top-scored with a gritty 30, while Shahid Aziz and Waseem Akram contributed valuable runs down the order. Bilawal Bhatti was the pick of the bowlers for SNGPL, claiming three wickets, supported well by Mohammad Ali, Shahnawaz Dahani, and Yasir Shah, who all chipped in with two wickets each.
In pursuit of the target, SNGPL’s openers provided a solid platform, with Haseebullah leading the charge with an outstanding unbeaten century. His eighth List A century was a masterclass in aggressive yet calculated batting, as he compiled a splendid 101 off just 79 deliveries, guiding his team to victory with ease. Abdullah Shafique and Omair Bin Yousuf also made useful contributions before Saud Shakeel provided the finishing touches to ensure SNGPL reached the target comfortably in just 26.3 overs.
Haseebullah’s stellar performance with the bat earned him the Player of the Final award, recognizing his match-winning century. Meanwhile, Abdullah Shafique was named the Player of the Tournament for his consistent all-round performances throughout the tournament, amassing 344 runs and taking 11 catches.
Additionally, individual awards were also presented to other standout performers, with Hussain Talat of Ghani Glass receiving the Best Batter award for his impressive tally of 364 runs, while Shahnawaz Dahani of SNGPL claimed the Best Bowler award for his remarkable haul of 19 wickets. Muhammad Ghazi Ghori of HEC was honored as the Best Wicketkeeper of the tournament for his excellent work behind the stumps, totaling 10 dismissals.
