Sohail Tanvir Becomes the Chief of Junior Selection Committee

Sohail Tanvir, a member of the 2009 T20 World Cup-winning squad and a former stalwart of Pakistan cricket, has been appointed as the head of the junior selection committee. With an international career that spanned from 2007 to 2019, Tanvir featured in two Tests, 62 ODIs, and 57 T20Is for Pakistan, amassing 130 wickets and scoring 612 runs across the three formats.

Tanvir’s inaugural task as the chairperson of the junior selection committee is the selection of the Pakistan U19 squad for the upcoming 2023 ACC U19 Asia Cup, slated to be held between 8th and 17th December in the UAE. Subsequently, the Pakistan U19 squad will participate in the ICC U19 World Cup scheduled from 13th January to 4th February in Sri Lanka.

Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Sohail Tanvir expressed his honor and eagerness to undertake the role granted by Chairman PCB Management Committee, Mr. Zaka Ashraf. He acknowledged the magnitude of the responsibility and conveyed his enthusiasm for the challenge ahead.

Tanvir emphasized his belief in the untapped potential of the country’s young talent and shared his vision to construct a developmental pathway that nurtures budding cricketers from grassroots levels to international acclaim. Emphasizing their immediate goal, he highlighted the upcoming ACC U19 Asia Cup as the initial platform to build a robust team capable of competing fiercely in the ICC U19 World Cup next year.

“I am truly honored and grateful for the opportunity provided by Chairman PCB Management Committee Mr. Zaka Ashraf to serve as head of the junior selection committee. Being appointed chairman of this committee is a huge responsibility and I am looking forward to this exciting challenge.

“I believe in the potential of our young talent and we collaboratively aim to build a pathway for success from the grassroots to the international level. Our first task will be the selection of the U19 squad for the upcoming ACC U19 Asia Cup, as we prepare to build a strong team to compete in the ICC U19 World Cup later next year.”
