Mental health is a vital component of our overall well-being and an even more essential aspect of functioning in day-to-day life. That is why it is necessary to speak up about mental illness and have an open dialogue while alleviating the stigma that surrounds it.
24th May marked ‘World Schizophrenia Day’ which aims to inform and educate people about the challenges schizophrenic patients face regularly. “Today, I pledge to provide a safe space for all those suffering from mental illness. I want to remind everyone that mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of and talking about it only helps the person suffering. On ‘World Schizophrenia Day’ it is vital that we remember that the road to recovery isn’t easy for anyone. It is a lifelong journey and people with mental illness need our support to live full lives”, stated Sonya Hussyn.
Where conversations like this are usually swept under the rug, Sonya Hussyn puts the spotlight on the importance of understanding mental health through the lens of compassion in order to educate people on what such disorders actually entail.
