Special Assistant to PM Fahd Husain steps down after a year in office

Former journalist Fahd Husain steps down as Special Assistant to PM after one-year stint Fahd Husain, a well-known journalist who quit his career in May last year to serve as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, has stepped down from the position. In a tweet, Husain thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the opportunity to serve in the public office. He said he had witnessed first-hand how the Prime Minister navigated multiple fault lines in tough times. Husain’s tenure as Special Assistant lasted just under a year.

Husain’s appointment as Special Assistant was significant as he was the first journalist to be given an official position in the coalition government. He was appointed as a federal minister, with the status of a Special Assistant to the Prime Minister.

Before joining the government, Husain was a resident editor of Dawn in Islamabad. He was one of the country’s leading journalists with three decades of experience working in newspapers and television both in Pakistan and abroad. During his career, he served as a newspaper reporter, editor, columnist, TV anchor, and news director. He also spearheaded the launch of three news channels.

Prior to joining Dawn in October 2019, Husain worked as the Executive Director of News at Express News TV and the Executive Editor of the daily The Express Tribune. Husain is also the nephew of PMLN leader Senator Mushahid Hussian.
