A brilliant captain’s knock by Sidra Amin (77 off 84 balls) and a stellar all-round display from Rameen Shamim (37 not out and two wickets) powered Stars to a five-wicket victory over Conquerors in the final of the National Women’s One-Day Tournament 2024 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday. The triumph earned Stars the championship trophy and a prize of PKR 1.5 million, while Conquerors settled for the runners-up trophy and PKR 1 million.
Conquerors Stumble to 178 Despite Hafsa Khalid’s Resistance
Opting to bat, Conquerors posted a modest total of 178 for nine in 45 overs, with Hafsa Khalid leading the charge. Her 78-ball 47, featuring nine boundaries, anchored the innings, while Dua Majid contributed a steady 40 off 66 balls. Late contributions from Saira Jabeen (32) and Najiha Alvi (23) added some respectability to the total.
Stars’ bowlers excelled, with pacer Waheeda Akhtar taking 3-33. Spinners Rameen Shamim (2-38), Tuba Hassan (2-42), and Neelam Mushtaq (1-26) maintained tight control, sharing five wickets among them.
Sidra and Rameen Shine in Stars’ Chase
In pursuit of 179, Stars lost early wickets but skipper Sidra Amin anchored the innings with a classy 77, featuring 11 boundaries and a six. She found an able partner in Rameen Shamim, and together they stitched a decisive 103-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
While Rameen remained unbeaten on 37, it was Tuba Hassan’s cameo (12 not out off four balls, including three consecutive boundaries) in the 43rd over that sealed the win with 10 balls to spare.
For Conquerors, Nashra Sundhu was the pick of the bowlers with 2-26.
