The Evolution of City Pages on TV: A Case Study of Suno News’ Din Bhar

The television news landscape has undergone significant transformations, borrowing concepts from traditional print media. One notable example is the adaptation of city pages, typically found in newspapers, into television news formats. This article explores the evolution of city pages on TV, focusing on Suno News’ Din Bhar program.

The Concept of City Pages on TV

Newspaper city pages provide updates on local events, happenings, and news from various parts of the city. TV news channels have replicated this concept, creating afternoon roundup shows that cover local and international news, along with engaging feature stories. Geo News’ Likin and ARY News’ News@3 pioneered this format in Pakistan.

Suno News’ Din Bhar

Suno News’ Din Bhar, hosted initially by Zeeshan Bashir and Zainab Jatoi, exemplifies this format. The program offered a comprehensive roundup of news, catering to diverse audience interests. Following Zainab’s departure, Jannat Jamshed joined, injecting fresh energy into the show.

The show got a sort of rebranding with a new promo video and a new host Jannat Jamshed, one of the new faces in the media who has been the face of Suno since joining it as a news anchor, Zeeshan Bashir with his calm demeanor and conduct remained part of the programme for nearly two years.

Recent Changes

Recently, Mahum Zahid replaced Jammad Jamshed as co-host, bringing eight years of experience to the table. Zeeshan Bashir’s calm and composed hosting style gave way to Imran Sanaullah, a seasoned anchor with a strong background in news programming. Zeeshan Bashir who has a career full of ebbs and flows when it comes to opportunities in his career moved back to news – something that he does as well as emasculate.

Imran Sanaullah is another old-timer and experienced anchor of the industry and a senior one at Suno News. Imran did a brilliant job as the host of the elections 2024 special debate program of the channel and we hope him doing the same with this assignment.

Sources reveal that these changes stem from Suno News’ rotation policy, aimed at testing and utilizing its human capital effectively. This approach enables the channel to evaluate talent, foster growth, and maintain a fresh perspective.

Last word

The evolution of city pages on TV reflects the dynamic nature of news consumption. Suno News’ Din Bhar, with its adaptable hosting lineup, demonstrates the channel’s commitment to engaging audiences and staying relevant. As the media landscape continues to shift, it’s fascinating to observe how TV news channels incorporate innovative strategies to remain competitive.

Share your thoughts: How do you perceive this programming strategy? Do you think rotation policies benefit news channels?
