Ubaid Shah Stars as Pakistan U19 Edge Past Bangladesh U19 in Thriller

In a tense encounter at Willowmoore Park, Benoni, Pakistan U19 emerged victorious over Bangladesh U19 by a slender margin of five runs, securing their spot in the ICC U19 World Cup semi-finals. Ubaid Shah’s stellar bowling performance, complemented by some gritty batting from Arafat Minhas, proved decisive in Pakistan’s hard-fought win.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Pakistan U19 faced early setbacks as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Despite the top-order collapse, Arafat Minhas played a crucial knock, scoring 34 runs to help Pakistan post a modest total of 155 runs. Sheikh Paevez Jibon and Rohanat Doullah Borson starred with the ball for Bangladesh, each claiming four wickets.

In response, Bangladesh U19 got off to a shaky start, losing wickets early on to Pakistan’s pace attack led by Ubaid Shah. Ubaid wreaked havoc on the Bangladesh batting line-up, picking up five wickets for 44 runs in his 10 overs. His lethal spell put Bangladesh on the back foot, and they struggled to build partnerships.

Despite a late resurgence from Mohammad Shihab James and skipper Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby, Bangladesh fell agonizingly short of the target, finishing their innings with 150 runs. Ali Raza provided crucial support to Ubaid, claiming three wickets to keep the pressure on the opposition.

Ubaid’s exceptional bowling performance earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award, showcasing his ability to deliver under pressure in a high-stakes encounter.

With this hard-fought victory, Pakistan U19 booked their spot in the semi-finals, where they will face Australia U19. The clash promises to be an exciting encounter as both teams vie for a place in the final.
