Before the inception of much talked about and much politicized ‘Lahore Metro’ Lahore was perhaps the only city in the world of its size and population without any proper public transport system. Well, Metro has ended this ‘did you know’ kind of fact to some extent but still Lahore is too big to be catered by one Metro only. This opens doors for other options and opportunities to tap and lead the transport deprived yet tech savvy part of the market. Uber Lahore (AKA UBER or UBER Pakistan) is one such opportunity that came in a few weeks ago and started flexing its muscles.

UBER has created an impact on Lahore market by creating economic opportunities in return Lahore has also given overwhelming response.  According to an official statement of UBER Lahore, “after a rigorous screening process, several hundred hit the roads every single day to change their fates, supplement their incomes and improve their lives. The city of Lahore is on its way to become the fastest growing city in the MENAP region at UBER.

The partner drivers of UBER have completed tens of thousands of road trips in just first sixty days of operations, on top of it some of these drivers are very highly rated by customers.

There are many inspiring stories as well when it comes to these drivers. Drivers such as Salman Rehman have found UBER as a great source of income. Another driver. Asif Qazi has been working as an IT Manager at Chakwal Group for the past 25 years. With his son studding at LUMS, Asif is using Uber to make extra income for his son’s educational expenses.

Even students have taken up UBER as their part time income source. Uwad Farooq is a civil engineering student who drives on the UBER platform in the evenings, 6 days a week. Khawaja Waqas have more than one car on the UBER platform operating on fleet.

In October 2015, UBER announced a $250 million investment in the MENAP region, a huge chunk of this amount is being invested in Pakistan for the expansion of UBER in the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that lately UBER and PITB signed an MoU to develop technology that commits towards additional safety and convenience for citizen of Lahore. UBER is also aiming to create more economic opportunities for not only individuals but also well as small and medium enterprises.
