Umar Akmal’s Century Propels WAPDA Ahead, PTV’s Dominance, and SBP-KRL Battle in President’s Trophy

The third day of the President’s Trophy Grade I witnessed compelling performances across matches as Umar Akmal’s splendid century guided Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), while Pakistan Television (PTV) dominated against Higher Education Commission (HEC). In the clash between State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), both teams fought fiercely with SBP holding a slight advantage.

SNGPL vs WAPDA at UBL Sports Complex, Karachi

WAPDA declared their second innings at 330-5, setting a challenging target of 367 for SNGPL. Umar Akmal’s exceptional 128, his 18th first-class ton, spearheaded WAPDA’s charge. Supported by Ahmed Shehzad’s valuable 70 and Ayaz Tasawar’s half-century, WAPDA looked comfortable with a 330-5 declaration.

SNGPL faced a brief spell of play, managing 12 runs for no loss in five overs before stumps. Abid Ali (9 not out) and Azhar Ali (2 not out) will commence day four with a requirement of 355 runs to win.

HEC vs PTV at State Bank Stadium, Karachi

PTV dominated HEC with a commanding batting display, posting 421 runs in their second innings. Debutant Muhammad Shahzad’s maiden first-class ton (100) and Waqar Hussain’s remarkable 104 formed the backbone of PTV’s innings. The pair contributed to a significant 180-run partnership. Hasan Mohsin’s fluent half-century further bolstered PTV’s lead, reaching a substantial target of 407 for HEC.

In response, HEC faced early setbacks, losing three wickets for 76 runs in 16 overs. Skipper Mohammad Huraira (37 not out) and Obaid Shahid will resume on day four, aiming to salvage the game.

SBP vs KRL at National Bank Stadium, Karachi

SBP bowlers swiftly wrapped up KRL’s second innings, dismissing them for 169. In the chase of 245, SBP faced initial challenges, losing three wickets for just 14 runs. However, Rameez Aziz (73) and Muhammad Irfan Khan (56 not out) steadied the innings with a vital partnership, bringing SBP close to the target at 195-6 by the end of the day.

SBP requires 50 more runs to win on day four, with four wickets in hand. The clash between SBP and KRL promises an exciting finish.

The fifth round of President’s Trophy 2023-24 Grade I is set to conclude on the upcoming day, offering cricket enthusiasts more thrilling moments and potential upsets.
