Usman Mukhtar, known for his role as an army captain in Sinf-e-Aahan, is preparing for his return to the big screen with a superhero role in the highly anticipated film Umro Ayyar – A New Beginning. As Pakistan’s first fantasy film, Umro Ayyar, featuring Mukhtar and Sanam Saeed in lead roles, has generated great excitement among fans.
In an interview with Independent Urdu, the Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay actor discussed the film, the future of Pakistani cinema, the hypocrisy prevalent on social media, and the type of roles he aspires to take on in the future.
Mukhtar highlighted that Umro Ayyar draws inspiration from the legendary tales of Dastaan-e-Ameer Hamza and Tilism-e-Hoshruba. He mentioned that while the film’s roots are based on these stories, Umro Ayyar has its own unique narrative. The shooting process took approximately three months, and the filming location transformed into a village. Mukhtar expressed how enjoyable the shooting experience was for the cast and crew.
Confident about the film’s reception among Pakistani audiences, Mukhtar believes that fans of the superhero genre in the country will particularly enjoy Umro Ayyar. He emphasized that having a superhero from their own region generates heightened excitement.
When discussing the critique of Pakistani cinema for often replicating Bollywood and Hollywood formulas instead of delving into local culture, Mukhtar expressed his view that Pakistani cinema should focus on exploring Pakistani stories and narratives that represent the country’s rich diversity. He stressed the need to move away from taking inspiration from neighboring countries and instead embrace unique Pakistani perspectives.
Mukhtar stated that, as an actor, he doesn’t differentiate between the small screen and the big screen, emphasizing that good scripts and diverse characters are what matter to him. Although he is known for serious roles, he expressed a desire to work on a well-written comedic script and participate in a fun show.
Addressing the issues with Pakistani dramas, Mukhtar highlighted the problem of poor character redemption and rushed redemption arcs. He expressed the importance of providing detailed character arcs, especially for negative or anti-hero roles, rather than resolving them abruptly in the final moments of the drama. Mukhtar believes that such irresponsible storytelling affects the audience’s engagement and sympathy.
Commenting on online trolling, Mukhtar shared his perspective on the recent trolling of his friend, Naimal Khawar. He emphasized the need to cultivate a culture of respect and upliftment rather than engaging in negative behavior online.
Lastly, Mukhtar revealed his fondness for working with Kubra Khan and Shahzad Sheikh, citing their shared interests and friendship. He also expressed his desire to collaborate with esteemed actors Rahat Kazmi and Uzma Gilani in the future, admiring their talent and expertise.
With his upcoming role in Umro Ayyar – A New Beginning and his insightful perspectives on the industry, Usman Mukhtar is set to captivate audiences and contribute to the growth of Pakistani cinema.
