Vidya Balan has publicised in a conversation with a leading daily that former Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi is the one historic person that she would love to portray on screen.
Vidya who has been offered multiple biopics after her portrayal of a character based on Silk Smitha in ‘The Dirty Picture’ said that the one person she is actually interested in playing on screen is Mrs. Indira Gandhi,
“I just find her to be so charismatic, powerful and yet so mysterious. You don’t know about the person Indira Gandhi. So it would be a great biopic to star in.”
Vidya also disproved rumors of being offered the role of Benazir Bhutto in a biopic on the life of late Pakistani Prime Minister and said that she was never offered the film,
“I don’t know where this Benazir Bhutto biopic story has come from. I was not even offered the film. How would I even refuse something I have not been offered?”
She has confirmed the news that she was offered the role of legendary actress Suchitra Sen in a biopic on her life. However, Vidya refused the film because it was a Bengali film and because she looks nothing like Suchitra Sen. Vidya Balan stated that she felt that as the film was being made in Bengali, it should cast one of Suchitra Sen’s own grand daughters. Vidya said,
“I was approached for the biopic, but I chose not to do it. It was a Bengali film. At least, if it was a Hindi film, it was still okay that I looked completely different from her. But for a Bengali film, I just thought when there is a Raima Sen, it didn’t make any sense for me to do it. Though I would have loved to play her and the script was very good, Raima looks so much like her grandmother Suchitra Sen and I thought it will look more credible.”
