Waqar Younis, Misbah-ul-Haq Among Mentors for U19 Women’s T20

Four mentors from the Champions One-Day Cup 2024 are set to be involved in the upcoming U19 Women’s T20 Tournament 2024, scheduled to take place at Lahore’s LCCA ground from 14 October. The tournament will feature five teams: Challengers, Conquerors, Invincibles, Stars, and Strikers, competing in a double-league format. The top two teams will qualify for the final, to be held on 3 November.

Mentors for the Teams:

  • Waqar Younis will mentor Challengers.
  • Misbah-ul-Haq will mentor Conquerors.
  • Shoaib Malik will guide Stars.
  • Saqlain Mushtaq will mentor Strikers.
  • Sarfaraz Ahmed, who was initially set to mentor Invincibles, will miss the tournament due to national duty, leaving the Invincibles without a mentor.

The tournament is designed to offer teenage cricketers a platform to showcase their talents and stake their claim for a spot in the Pakistan Women’s U19 team ahead of the ACC U19 T20 tournament later this year and the ICC U19 Women’s T20 in Malaysia in January 2025.

A total of 75 players will participate in the tournament, which will also feature a prize pot of PKR1.1 million. The winning team will earn PKR0.5 million, while the runners-up will receive PKR0.3 million. Each day will see two matches, with the first beginning at 9:00 am and the second at 1:00 pm.

The squads for the tournament have been selected through open trials conducted nationwide in August and September by the national women’s selection committee, headed by Asad Shafiq and Batool Fatima. Only players born on or after 1 September 2005 are eligible to participate.
