West Indies Women A showcased remarkable resilience as they defeated Pakistan Women A by three wickets in a thrilling encounter at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. With this victory, West Indies Women A clinched the one-day series 2-1, highlighting their competitive prowess.
Pakistan Women A, captained by Rameen Shamim, put up a valiant fight with the ball. Rameen delivered a sensational spell, claiming four wickets while conceding just 13 runs in her 10 overs. However, her fantastic effort couldn’t secure the win for her side as Djenaba Joseph’s unbeaten 51 steered West Indies Women A to victory in the crucial third match.
West Indies Women A’s chase got off to a confident start, with the opening partnership between Shunelle Sawh and Shabika Gajnabi producing 53 runs. They reached the 100-run mark with just two batters down. However, a collapse, triggered by Rameen Shamim, saw them tumble from 104-2 to 106-6, with Zaida James, Trishan Holder, and Sheneta Grimmond all dismissed for ducks.
Djenaba Joseph played a crucial role in stabilizing the innings and guided her team to victory with 31 balls to spare. Apart from Rameen, Pakistan Women A’s Saima Malik (2-36) and Anosha Nasir (1-32) also took wickets.
In the first innings, Pakistan Women A had a steady start with Shawaal Zulfiqar and Eyman Fatima combining for a 49-run opening partnership. However, their innings took a downturn, and they collapsed to 63-6. Some valuable contributions from Sidra Nawaz (27), Anosha Nasir (23), and Humna Bilal (21 not out) in the lower order helped Pakistan Women A reach a total of 162 all out in 44.4 overs.
Jahzara Claxton was the star with the ball for the visiting side, claiming four wickets for 19 runs and was named the “Player of the Match.” West Indies Women A’s captain Rashada Williams was honored as the “Player of the Series” after accumulating 111 runs across the three matches.
Both teams will now take part in a T20 tri-series, which will also feature Thailand Women’s Emerging Team as the third side. This exciting tri-series is scheduled to commence on November 3 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
