West Indies Women’s Cricket Team Set to Tour Pakistan for ICC Women’s Championship Matches

Pakistan is gearing up to host the final set of ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 matches at home, with the arrival of the West Indies women’s cricket team scheduled in Karachi on 14 April. The series promises an exciting lineup of eight white-ball matches, including three ODIs and five T20Is, to be held at the National Bank Stadium (NBS) in Karachi.

The ODIs, which are part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25, are slated for 18th, 21st, and 23rd April, while the T20Is will follow on 26th, 28th, 30th April, 2nd, and 3rd May. Matches will commence at 3:30 pm PKT for ODIs and 7:30 pm PKT for T20Is.

Currently ranked third in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25, Pakistan’s women’s team has amassed 16 points from 18 matches, while the West Indies women’s team holds the ninth position with eight points from 12 outings. In the ICC Women’s T20I rankings, Pakistan occupies the eighth position, with West Indies placed sixth.

This upcoming tour marks the West Indies women’s team’s second visit to Pakistan since 2021 when they last visited Karachi in November and featured in three ODIs. The series also marks the fourth series hosted at home by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) within the 2022-25 cycle, following visits by Sri Lanka, Ireland, and South Africa women’s cricket teams.

Tania Mallick, Head of Women’s Cricket at PCB, extended a warm welcome to the West Indies women’s team, emphasizing the importance of promoting women’s cricket and strengthening international cricketing ties. With the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 nearing its conclusion, Mallick highlighted the significance of securing maximum points from the home matches to qualify directly for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup.

Furthermore, with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup scheduled later this year, the five T20Is against West Indies are strategically positioned to assist selectors in finalizing the squad for the prestigious event.

The series holds great significance for both teams, offering a platform for competitive cricket and fostering relationships between cricketing nations.
