Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed former Test all-rounder Yasir Arafat as the High-Performance Coach for the Pakistan Cricket Team. Arafat will join the team management for the imminent five-match T20I series against New Zealand slated from 12th to 21st January 2024 in New Zealand.
The 41-year-old former cricketer, who represented Pakistan in three Tests, 11 ODIs, and 13 T20Is, recently completed his ECB Level 4 coaching course from Loughborough University, marking him as the first Pakistan Test player to achieve this accolade. Arafat brings a wealth of coaching experience, having served as a bowling coach for renowned county teams such as Sussex and Surrey, along with a stint with Australia’s Big Bash League franchise, Perth Scorchers. Notably, he also served as a bowling coach for the Hong Kong national team.
Apart from his coaching endeavors, Yasir Arafat has an extensive playing career in various T20 leagues worldwide. His appearances for teams like Otago and Canterbury in New Zealand’s domestic T20 competitions further bolster his cricketing acumen.
Arafat’s immediate responsibilities include overseeing the five-day camp set in Lahore from 29th December to 2nd January. This camp aims to prepare the team comprehensively ahead of their upcoming tour to New Zealand. As the High-Performance Coach, Yasir Arafat is expected to bring his multifaceted experience to nurture and guide the Pakistani players towards their best performance in the forthcoming series.
