Leg-spinner Yasir Shah became the second-fastest bowler to take 100 Test wickets after he dismissed Miguel Cummins on the fourth day of the first Test against West Indies in Dubai. Yasir is currently playing his 17th Test and has 100 wickets which make him the fastest bowler from Asia to achieve that feat. He finished the innings with five wickets for 121 runs as West Indies were bowled out for 357 in reply to Pakistan’s 579/3.
The record for fastest 100 wickets in Test cricket is with England’s medium-pacer George Lohman who reached the miletsone in just 16 Tests in 1896. The record still stands even after 140-year-old history of Test cricket.
Yasir now joins three other bowlers who have taken the same number of wickets after 100 Tests. Australia’s Charlie Turner and Clarrie Grimmett and England’s Sydney Barnes each had 100 Test wickets after their 17th match.
Yasir made his debut in 2014 in Dubai and before the start of this match, he had 95 wickets at a strike rate of 53.70. Yasir Shah also has seven seven five-wicket hauls in Test cricket in his name.
