Younis Khan Expresses Confidence in Pakistan’s World Cup Prospects, Emphasizes Match-Winners in the Side

Younis Khan, the ex-captain who guided Pakistan to triumph in the first T20 World Cup in 2009, voiced confidence in Pakistan’s ability to secure a spot in the top four of the upcoming ICC World Cup in India. Speaking to the media in Karachi, Younis highlighted the team’s collection of match-winners, underlining their potential for success in the tournament.

“I feel very confident that Pakistan will make it to the top four in World Cup. Because there are match-winners in the side who can win you matches any day,” the former captain said. He urged about the need to plan strongly for each game, emphasizing the importance of playing as a unit. Younus acknowledged Pakistan’s strength in having good fast bowlers, which has traditionally been a key asset for the team.

Younis Khan, one of the most prolific batters Pakistan has ever produced and the only Pakistan batsman to score 10,000+ runs in Test cricket, also shared his thoughts on the highly anticipated Pakistan vs India game. He suggested that Babar Azam, the current captain, stay calm and make a plan A and B to win against India. He acknowledged that the match against India has always been a pressure game, and emphasized the importance of strategizing effectively for this crucial encounter.

Pakistan’s record against India in the ODI World Cup has been elusive, but they broke the streak in the T20 World Cup in 2021, securing their first-ever victory against their arch-rivals in the tournament.

As for Pakistan’s tentative ICC World Cup schedule, they will play their group-stage matches across five venues. They will face Qualifying teams on October 6 and 12 in Hyderabad, India, followed by matches against Australia in Ahmedabad on October 15, Afghanistan on October 23, and South Africa on October 27 in Chennai. The team will then meet Bangladesh in Kolkata on October 31, New Zealand in Bengaluru on November 5 (day match), and England in Kolkata on November 12.

With Younis Khan’s confidence and belief in Pakistan’s match-winners, along with strategic planning and unity, fans will be eagerly anticipating their team’s performance in the ICC World Cup.
