Zalmi Women Cricket League: Zalmi Foundation Takes A Historic Step for Women in Sports

The Zalmi Foundation, in collaboration with Ufone 4G, proudly announced the launch of the Zalmi Women Cricket League (ZWL), Pakistan’s first-ever women’s cricket league. This groundbreaking initiative aims to promote gender equality and empower women in sports, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5.

A Vision for Empowerment

The ZWL reflects Peshawar Zalmi’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusivity and youth development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Over the years, the Zalmi Foundation, the CSR wing of Peshawar Zalmi, has championed initiatives in education, healthcare, and youth empowerment. The introduction of the ZWL marks a significant chapter in their mission to break barriers and create impactful opportunities for women.

“This league represents a transformative journey,” said Javed Afridi, Chairman of Peshawar Zalmi and Zalmi Foundation. “It’s not just about cricket; it’s about breaking barriers and setting a precedent for women’s participation in sports. We are proud to partner with Ufone 4G in this historic endeavor.”

Ufone 4G, known for its support of socio-economic initiatives, joins hands with Zalmi to address critical issues and provide platforms for deserving individuals.

Tournament Format and Teams

The ZWL will feature eight teams, divided into two groups:

Group A

  • Peshawar Thunderbolts
  • DI Khan Royals
  • Kohat Titans
  • Mardan Mavericks

Group B

  • Peshawar All Stars
  • Bannu Renegades
  • Hazara Daffodils
  • Malakand Strikers

The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, culminating in two semi-finals and an exciting final match to crown the first-ever ZWL champion.

Government Support and Infrastructure

The league’s success is further bolstered by the signing of an MoU between Peshawar Zalmi and the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur assured full support, promising state-of-the-art facilities, infrastructure, and resources to ensure the league’s smooth execution.

Event Details

The ZWL will take place from December 3 to December 7, 2024, at the Hayatabad Sports Complex in Peshawar. The league promises thrilling cricket, opportunities for emerging athletes, and a powerful message of women’s empowerment.
