Pakistan Shaheens put up an impressive performance on the opening day of the second four-day match against Zimbabwe A at Mutare Sports Club in Mutare. The right-arm pacers, Mohammad Ali and Aamir Jamal, led the attack, picking up seven wickets between them to bundle out Zimbabwe A for a meagre 163.
After being put into bat, Zimbabwe A got off to a shaky start as centurion from the last match, Joylord Gumbie, was dismissed by Mohammad Ali for just seven runs. Opener Tadiwanashe Marumani and Dion Myers then steadied the innings, stitching together a 110-run partnership for the second wicket. However, after the departure of Myers, Zimbabwe A lost their way and were bowled out in just 56.4 overs.
In response, Pakistan Shaheens got off to a solid start with captain Imran Butt (27) and Mohammad Huraira (60 not out) adding 63 runs for the opening wicket. Butt was then dismissed, but Huraira, along with Omair Bin Yousuf (19 not out), put on an unbeaten 52-run stand for the second wicket to take Pakistan Shaheens to 115-1 at stumps. They still trail by 48 runs with nine wickets in hand.
Ali was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan Shaheens, finishing with figures of 4-36 in 14.4 overs, while Aamir and Mehran Mumtaz claimed three wickets each. Overall, it was a dominant performance by Pakistan Shaheens, who will be looking to build on their strong start on day two of the match.
