Excitement is building among cricket enthusiasts as Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), in collaboration with T Ten Global Sports, officially announced the launch of the highly anticipated Zim Afro T10 tournament. Set to kick off on July 20th, the tournament will feature six privately owned teams competing in Harare, with the grand final scheduled for July 29th.
Following the tremendous success of T10 cricket in Abu Dhabi over the past six seasons, T Ten Global Sports decided to expand the format to other cricket-loving nations. The inaugural Zim Afro T10 tournament aims to captivate fans both in Zimbabwe and around the world by bringing together some of the finest cricketers from across the globe to the picturesque city of Harare.
Mr. Givemore Makoni, the Managing Director of Zimbabwe Cricket, expressed his pride in being associated with the introduction of franchise-based cricket through the Zim Afro T10. He believes that this moment marks a significant milestone in the history of cricket in Zimbabwe and expects the tournament to entertain and enthrall fans in the country and beyond.
“The 20th of July will be a landmark day for T10 Sports and Zim Afro T10 as well, as we begin our journey in Zimbabwe. It is a country that has a special place in cricketing history, and there is no doubt in my mind that the cricket family in this country will enjoy the tournament,” stated Mr. Rajeev Khanna, the Chief Operating Officer of T10 Sports Management.
The Zim Afro T10 tournament will not only provide thrilling cricketing action but also offer an opportunity for local talent to showcase their skills alongside international stars. The player auction and fixtures for the tournament will be announced soon, building further anticipation among cricket fans.
T Ten Global Sports Founder and Chairman, Mr. Nawab Shaji Ul Mulk, expressed his delight in partnering with Zimbabwe Cricket, emphasizing the importance of spreading the T10 format to Zimbabwe. He described the collaboration as a crucial chapter in their story and expressed his eagerness to commence the 10-day cricketing festival in Harare. “We are delighted to be working with Zimbabwe Cricket, and this is a partnership we hope will bat for more than 10 overs,” he added.
